Boosting participation of rural, Latino leaders in STEM industries
A new STEM leadership development program will be launching in Salinas this month. AT&T, United Farm Workers, Coro, and Udacity are teaming up to create a unique program with the goal of bridging the diversity gap in the tech industry.
AdelanTECH Leadership Program – developed by AT&T, UFW, CORO and Udacity – will provide a one-year experience for 12 Salinas-area fellows. Created to help bridge the gap between today’s high-tech jobs and Californians currently underrepresented in STEM industries, the AdelanTECH Leadership Program combines leadership development from CORO and web development training (culminating in a Nanodegree) from Udacity.
The inaugural class of fellows was recruited by UFW and includes farmworkers and the adult children of farmworkers from the Salinas area. The current focus is to boost participation of rural, Latino leaders in STEM industries.
More details are expected soon. Santa Cruz Tech Beat will cover this topic as more information becomes available.
