Facebook donates 25 MacBook Pros to Digital NEST
Less than a year after launching in a small, upstairs office, Watsonville’s Digital NEST has gone from a homespun after-school tech education club to a flourishing organization with soon-to-be-announced plans to expand to the Central Valley.
Most recently, Palo Alto-based Facebook announced recently that it will donate 25 MacBook Pro computers to the thriving nonprofit.
Some 420 students took classes over the summer, with topics ranging from 3-D design to marketing to video game production, with an average of 25 young people coming in every day, said founder Jacob Martinez.
“There were days we had 70 kids walking in and out,” he said.
That’s a big jump from a half-year ago, when less than half that number had signed up, Martinez said.
