- Hack UCSC: Doug Erickson announced mentors, judges and sponsors are needed for the hackathon Jan. 29-31 at UC Santa Cruz. Details: http://cied.ucsc.edu/news-events/events/hackathon.html
- First Santa Cruz Mini Maker Faire: Zachary Roberts, head of Gateway School, invites entries for the event 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 16 at 126 Eucalyptus Ave., Santa Cruz. Makers must apply by March 15 at http://www.makerfairesantacruz.com/
- MakersFactory: Dave Britton has a deal with CTL to distribute a game-based learning cube to teach the educational version of Minecraft. He’s looking for a partner with financial capability.
- Private tech retreat: Datta Khalsa of Main Street Realtors pitched a property in Aptos with a swim complex, part of an ecological restoration with ocean views and miles of trails, for $9.8 million.
- Fiber: Cruzio wants people to fill out its survey on high-speed internet; the first installations will be in neighborhoods with the most residents requesting service.
