CSUMB Hackathon Nov 4-6 to promote use of technology to solve emerging community concerns

This year’s event will focus on the use of technology to solve community concerns such as safety, education, parking, emergency management and other emerging community dilemmas.

This year’s Startup Hackathon Monterey Bay is a 3-day technology development competition that brings together teams of students and others to design, develop and apply technology to solve community problems. Open to all.

Cal State University Monterey Bay will host the 5th annual Startup Hackathon weekend featuring 80 students from Monterey Peninsula College, Cabrillo College, Hartnell College and CSUMB November 4-6, 2016. This year’s event, held at the Joel and Dena Gambord Business and Information Technology Building, will focus on the use of technology to solve community concerns such as safety, education, parking, emergency management and other emerging community dilemmas.

The Hackathon is calling for organizations that have interesting and challenging community issues to submit their proposals as possible topics to be addressed at the hackathon. Interested organizations can submit their proposals through the iiED Startup Hackathon website.

For participants

This year’s event will focus on the use of technology to solve community concerns such as safety, education, parking, emergency management and other emerging community dilemmas. The Hackathon begins at 4pm on Friday through 4pm Sunday. Registration includes 6 meals, a t-shirt and lots of coffee and snacks to keep participants fueled up all weekend. The Hackathon is calling for potential mentors and organizations with interesting and challenging community issues to submit their proposals as possible topics for students to address. If you would like to submit an idea for a community issue or would like to be a mentor during the event, please fill out our surveys:

The CSUMB Institute for Innovation and Economic Development (iiED), housed in the College of Business, hosts events such as the hackathon to promote entrepreneurship in the Monterey Bay region and foster the development of a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region.
