Santa Cruz County Business Council is hosting an Economic Forum and luncheon on Thursday, June 30, 2016, featuring Beacon Economics’ speaker Dr. Robert Kleinhenz, the former Chief Economist of the Kyser Center at the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation  The presentation will detail information specific to our local economy, while also highlighting key trends facing the state and national economies.

“This forum will be primarily geared towards the local economy so that the local business community can have a better idea about what to expect in our own backyard,” says Casey Beyer, Executive Director of SCCBC. “Accurate regional data has inherent value when looking to make local and context specific decisions.”

Dr. Kleinhenz is one of California’s leading economists and is well known for his deep expertise in the state’s economy, having nearly 30 years of experience analyzing the U.S. and the economies of California’s many diverse regions. Earlier in his career, he was Deputy Chief Economist at the California Association of Realtors where he focused on housing market and consumer research. He also taught economics for over 15 years, most recently at California State University, Fullerton.

In addition to Dr. Kleinhenz, UCSC Vice Chancellor of Research Scott Brandt will also be speaking on the impact that the university has on the local economy. Specifically, he will provide information on how UCSC is supporting student entrepreneurs and managing the technology transfer process, whereby university research is utilized to create new private companies and build out UC’s intellectual property portfolio.

The Business Council will also be providing attendees with a report on the “State of Local Business Survey,” which was a survey of their member companies from earlier in the year. The survey will detail information on the confidence of local companies, their employment trends, and other community concerns.

The event is being sponsored by UC Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County Bank, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Dignity Health, Bay Federal Credit Union, Hutchinson and Bloodgood, and AT&T, all of which are Business Council Board Members. The Santa Cruz County Business Council is a consortium of over 70 local companies whose mission is to advocate for and promote economic vitality throughout the County.
