County Science & Engineering Fair seeks partners and judges

Become a Booth Partner, Special Awards Partner, or Volunteer Judge!
The Educational Services Division of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education is seeking help for the upcoming Santa Cruz County Science & Engineering Fair. Your organization can choose to be a Booth Partner, a Special Awards Partner, or you can be a volunteer judge. Participate and help the top young scientists and engineers in our local area.
- The Santa Cruz County Science Fair is on March 8, 2014 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
- The Awards Ceremony is on March 18, 2014 at the Cabrillo College Samper Recital Hall.
Booth Partners:
Last year, the County Office of Education began to provide the opportunity for local organizations that work with Science Education to setup a booth at the Science & Engineering Fair. Booth Partners exhibit information about their organization, share opportunities for involvement in STEM programs, provide materials for the students/parents, and possibly supply small giveaways for Science & Engineering Fair Finalists. Booths will be setup on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds (Between the Harvest Building and the Arts Building). All booths must provide their own tables, chairs, easy-ups, etc. and should anticipate an approximately 10 foot x 10 foot footprint for their booth. Arrive between 8-8:30am for setup. Grades K-5 students/parents will be visiting from about 9am – 11am. Grades 6-12 students/parents will be visiting from 10am – 1:00pm. Plan on taking down the booth from 1-2pm.
Special Awards Partners:
Each year, fair organizers give Special Awards from various organizations to honor students whose projects exemplify the works of different fields of scientific research. They encourage organizations to send a volunteer judge (or group of judges) to the Science & Engineering Fair to decide which projects should receive the awards, but fair organizers can also coordinate this for you. They will send project abstracts to you prior to the Fair, so your organization can pick specific projects as finalists or select potential finalists for interviewing the day of the Fair.
Volunteer judges:
Become a judge. The website for judges is http://www.science.santacruz.k12.ca.us/judges.html. The site includes a Judges Guide with complete information about the process and criteria for judging. It also includes the Scoring Sheet used for interviewing students and judging projects. Judges should register online at http://science.santacruz.k12.ca.us/judges_registration.html and will receive ongoing email updates.
