CSUMB’s Digital Otter Center offers free community tech support

[Editor’s note: Despite the name, this otter center is not about the kind of otters that live in the ocean. The otter is the CSUMB mascot.]
CSUMB’s newest community outreach program, the Digital Otter Center, provides a variety of free technology services on a drop-in basis to students, business owners and residents in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties.
The Digital Otter Center’s free services are available every Friday through December 2, 2016, 4-7 pm, at the Joel & Dena Gambord Business and Information Technology Building on CSUMB campus.
Digital Otter Center free services include:
- Tech classes – basic computer use, Internet, productivity software, basic media and coding
- Tech support – removal of viruses, installation of software, troubleshooting
- Tech tutors – one-on-one teaching/tutoring ofbasic computer skills
Mission
The mission of the Digital Otter Center is to develop knowledge, expertise and resources needed to create and support a vibrant entrepreneurial community. This mission falls in line with the CSUMB Service Learning Institute and their goal to foster and promote social justice by connecting students, faculty, staff and the surrounding tri-county community.
During the 2015-16 academic year, 2,840 students in 118 courses provided 97,220 hours of service in 350 community agencies and schools throughout Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey counties through CSUMB’s Service Learning Institute.
