Vietnamese AgTech delegation comes to Salinas

Last April, a group of Vietnamese agriculture business delegates visited Salinas for one specific reason. They wanted to learn about and acquire the latest AgTech solutions that exist in the world, so they specifically wanted to visit the Salinas Valley.
The Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA) with the support of Dennis Donohue and the Western Growers Center of Innovation located at the Taylor Farms building in old town Salinas hosted this group in April to meet with the companies providing the latest AgTech applications, services and products emerging from our world leading AgTech community. As a result of this effort another high level Vietnamese delegation led by the former vice-minister of the Vietnam Agriculture Ministry will be visiting Salinas again this Friday, June 30, 2017 for a special invitation-only luncheon and networking event at the West Wing Conference Room at the Salinas City Hall beginning at Noon and concluding at 2:00 p.m.
The purpose of this event is to develop more business opportunities in trade and investment between the Vietnamese agriculture business community and the Salinas Valley. This event is taking place the day after the globally attended Forbes AgTech conference on June 28-29 in Salinas.
“Vietnam is a country to put on your global marketing radar screen. These people are very serious about ‘leap-frogging’ to the latest agriculture solutions for their burgeoning agriculture industry. They are looking for all kinds of AgTech solutions. In particular, they want to become a leader in organic food production and are looking for the expertise, products and technology they know they can find in the Salinas Valley to do that”, says Tony Livoti of MBITA who is organizing this luncheon and networking event.
The U.S. government through the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank) and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is providing American businesses financing for themselves and their Vietnamese counterparts for projects, export loan guarantees and insurance programs. Coupled with the activities of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA), which provides grants for feasibility studies, technical assistance, reverse trade missions and training for commercial projects that are being pursued by American firms, the U.S. has positioned the Salinas Valley business community to be very competitive in the Vietnam marketplace.
