The extended community shows up to honor and support The NEST. Here are scenes from the scene.
A crush of people filled DigitalNEST spaces to celebrate their third anniversary. The organization serves more than 1600 youth in the Watsonville and Salinas facilities through support from local donors, city support and agricultural companies.
Jacob Martinez, founder of DigitalNEST, with daughter Maribel, greets guests as they arrive to celebrate the organization’s third anniversary. His philosophy continues to focus on expanding opportunities. “When the youth of our community have equal opportunity,” he said, “the entire region will rise.”
Youth 12-24 come through the doors of DigitalNEST to discover skills,
community and themselves. At the Salinas campus, students learn web applications and IT access focusing on agricultural applications.
The Watsonville DigitalNEST facility features an emphasis on digital arts and
technology. In the camera room, Carlos (seated) and Enrique (standing) demonstrate the
video and still photography. Portrayed live in the computer monitor, Ozzy demonstrates the 360 degree camera to a visitor.
Gabriel Medina, Digital Arts Manager, demonstrates the range of capabilities
with virtual reality (VR) technology.
DigitalNEST, located on the Cabrillo College Watsonville campus, originated as a safe space for youth to learn technology skills and pursue career opportunities. The stairway to classrooms display walls of DigitalNEST student successes.
