Santa Cruz New Tech Meetup wowed by Bonny Doon inventor of personal electric aircraft
Inventor JoeBen Bevirt, who works his magic at a complex in rural Bonny Doon, shared his vision to transform the way people commute at the Santa Cruz New Tech MeetUp at Cruzio Wednesday night, wowing the sold-out audience of 225.
A personal electric airplane called S2 by JoeBen Bevirt, that takeoff and lands vertically (VTOL) like a helicopter, and flies aerodynamically, like an aircraft.
Bevirt, 40, was introduced as “the Elon Musk of Santa Cruz” by MeetUp organizer Doug Erickson, referring to the Tesla inventor.
Among Bevirt’s hits: the GorillaPod tripod for photographers and Joby Energy, a startup creating airborne wind turbines, then merged with Makani, a wind power company acquired a year ago for $5 million for the Google X lab.
