Plantronics announces 2015 PLT Labs Application Innovation Contest, prizes up to $85K

“Through this nine month hack-a-thon, we are hoping to tap the brightest and most creative innovators in the world to explore the realm of what’s possible”

The 2015 PLT Labs Application Innovation Contest invites application developers to register and compete for cash prizes worth up to $85K.

Contestants will have access to Plantronics APIs, SDKs, and product concept prototypes and work in teams of 1-5 members to build new applications.

The contest is global and will focus on nurturing innovation among contestants, who will be rewarded for building mobile applications using Plantronics product concept prototype. Applications can be built in one of these categories:

1. Enterprise software application
2. To assist people with limited mobility
3. For people on the go on mobile phones or tablets

“Headsets have rapidly moved beyond simple wearables that connect one person to another through speech. Now a broad range of contextual information from the device, coupled with the power and ubiquity of smart phones makes entirely new classes of applications possible,” said Cary Bran, vice-president, Innovation and New Ventures, Plantronics. “Through this nine month hack-a-thon we are hoping to tap the brightest and most creative innovators in the world to explore the realm of what’s possible—and reward them with cash so they can further their education or develop new businesses.”

• Contest Period: Sept 2, 2014 – May 9, 2015

• Idea Submission Dates: Sept 29, 2014 – Nov 15, 2014
• Announcement of Quarter Finalists: on or about Nov 25, 2014
• Announcement of Semi Finalists: Mar 2, 2015
• Announcement of Finalists: Apr 15, 2015
• Announcement of Winners: May 9, 2015

Prizes total $85K

• First Winning Team: $50K
• Second Winning Team: $25K
• Third Winning Team: $10K
